As a part of National Chess Month our pupils from 3rd – 6th recently visited Kilcroan NS to play
the pupils there in a few friendly games of chess. The pupils really enjoyed the experience and I
would like to thank Ms. Joyce the principal of Kilcroan for hosting the event and Mr. Coleman

As I’m sure many of you are aware Mr. Coleman a retired teacher has been coming to the school teaching the boys and girls from 3rd to 6th how to play chess over the last few months. NCM is non competitive and the focus is on learning, fun and participation. During the winter last year there were many days when pupils didn’t get to go outside at break and this was a great way for the pupils to spend their time indoors. Our Chess Tournament will be shortly coming to an end. The boys and girls learnt how to play chess with Mr. Coleman who subbed in the school during the year. We invested in chess boards and pieces and the boys and girls have enjoyed playing their chess tournament during rainy days in Mr. Carney’s room. #Chess
